Dr. Chito Sace, faculty of ICCEM, was recognized by the CLSU Research, Extension and Training Office for his leadership in packaging and implementing a research project titled, Hydroponic System as Smart Farming Technique for Vegetable Crop Production. The said project received a financial support of more than P3.9M from the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and P0.9M CLSU counterpart, for a total of P4.9M.

Generally, this project aims to develop and promote hydroponics as precision and smart farming technique for vegetables production, specifically cucumber, tomato and bell pepper as initial high value test crops. Moreover, this would also test the suitability of hydroponic nutrient solutions at various growth stages of select crops, evaluate the economic profitability of the developed interventions, and promote the commercialization of hydroponic technology as a smart farming strategy for various agri-entrepreneurs.

The one-hectare hydroponic production systems will be constructed at the Central Luzon State University this year.
