Dr. Gilbert C. Sigua, an Adjunct Professor in the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM) and a Research Soil Scientist at the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service has been awarded a six-week Fulbright Fellowship by the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board of Educational and Cultural Office’s Specialist Program at ICCEM, Central Luzon State University in April 2012.
Dr. Annie Melinda Paz-Alberto, ICCEM Director, will serve as host scientist for Dr. Sigua during his fellowship at the university.
Dr. Sigua will give series of technical seminars to promote strongly the integration of the physical environment, ecology and biodiversity into a sustainable agro-ecosystem. He will also be a mentor to students of PhD students on Pollution Prevention and Waste Management where they will be trained on developing appropriate technologies thus promoting sustainable development in natural resources and ensuring environmental health of the people. Moreover, Dr. Sigua will also provide technical assistance to the Institute in establishing collaboration to obtain more relevant integrated research and development programs on environmental management, water quality, biodiversity assessment and utilization of potential phytoremediators of heavy metals, pollutants, and carcinogens.
